How often should I post? What should I say? What should I be posting on LinkedIn?...

I’ve got a formula for you: out of every 10 posts, three should be your own content and six should be sharing other people’s content.

If you see a post you like and want to share, make sure it is consistent with the personal brand you want to portray. Your personal brand relates to how you want other people to know you or think about you before they meet you.

Hashtags will help you in the long run when posting your own content. If you don’t include

hashtags, the post will only be seen by your first-level connections. If you do include hashtags, your post will reach a much wider audience.

Let’s say you just read a book about leadership or business building and you want to share your insights from that book. If you include relevant hashtags along with your insights, your post will come up in search results when people look for content related to leadership.

Out of those 10 posts you share on LinkedIn, one should be a LinkedIn article. Keep in mind that the stakes of a LinkedIn article are not as high as a published article. A LinkedIn article can be short—400-600 words. Think about what expertise you can share in a LinkedIn article, like “Three Keys to Being a Great Leader” included in three short paragraphs.

The last paragraph can be an example or personal story about how this idea has played out in your own career. Include hashtags at the bottom of the article to widen its reach. You can also send the article to certain individuals by tagging them in the post—then their network will see it too.

Rule of thumb: out of every 10 posts, make six that share other people’s content, three that share your own content, and one LinkedIn article that goes deeper into your insights and positions you to be seen as a thought leader.

Everyone wants to hire and follow a thought leader, right? You can become a thought leader by posting more LinkedIn articles, making every post count, and making every article consistent with your own personal brand and how you want to be perceived.
