4 Ways To Make Your Job Search Fun

Jul 27, 2014 4:28:47 PM

Making a career change is always a big leap of faith. Whether you’ve been downsized from your old job or this career change is your own choice, launching into a job search can be overwhelming. At this point, I always like to remember the Mary Poppin’s school of thought that “A teaspoon of sugar makes the medicine go down!” So, let’s start with 4 ways to make your job search fun!

How to Keep your Job Search Fun

Keep Your Career Change Fun

1. Begin with something you enjoy - It’s easier to get started on your career change journey if you begin with something you like. For instance, do you like to do research on the internet? Job search websites are a fantastic way to begin. Are you good at meeting people? Perfect! Begin your search by visiting companies that you’re interested in and meet some key contacts! Perhaps you’re good at brainstorming. Get out some paper and doodle to your heart’s content about every way to make your career change successful!

2. Customize your own plan - An action plan to find your next position can really help you stay focused on your career change goals. At the same time, make your plan something that you’re willing to follow. If you keep your action steps fun, you’re more likely to stick with your plan to a successful end.

3. Network with people you’re comfortable around – When you meet new people for your job search, try to find some common ground. By asking friendly questions, you’ll be amazed to find what you both have in common. In addition, some light conversation is a great way to break the ice and help you relax. Soon, you’ll discover that you’re actually having fun meeting new people!

4. Find someone to help you with the hard stuff – If you dread writing a resume or going to an interview, find someone who can help! You can hire a resume writer or get a personal coach to guide you through interviewing skills.

There are many things that need to get done during a career change, but you can definitely have help and fun all along the way!
