Well, if you're unemployed or even "underemployed," you are hemorrhaging on a DAILY BASIS. If you were making the median salary for someone with 20 years' experience ($76K), it's costing you $6,343 a month, $1,475 a week or $295 A DAY to be out of work! Oh - and if you were making six figures, unemployment can cost you over $2,300 a week - that's nearly $10,000 a month!
FACT: The unemployment rate for the last few months, as I'm sure you know, has hovered right around 9% - that's around 14 million people. This number has topped 8% for 31 months - the longest streak since the Depression-era 1930's.
But a lesser-publicized number is the "broad unemployment rate," which includes those people who are underemployed or currently aren't searching. That number, as measured by Bureau of Labor and Statistics in November 2011, adds 11.9 million more job seekers into the mix. This doesn't count the millions searching for a move up in their career. This brings the true job seeking percentage to nearly 20%... in reality, over 1 in 5 people are either unemployed or underemployed - a far cry from the enriching work they desire or deserve!
FACT: Six out of 10 highly experienced job seekers have been out of work for well over half a year. One third of all unemployed workers have been out over a full year. This is the longest period of time since the Bureau of Labor and Statistics started keeping track of employment figures in 1948, and this number keeps increasing every month.
