How to Know if It’s Time to Make a Move in Your Career

Jan 27, 2023 6:38:14 AM

Is it time for you to make a move in your career outside of your current company?

This is one of the most pressing questions for a lot of the people we speak with at CRC. Every situation is unique, so it’s a bit difficult to generalize, but to help you determine if now is the best time to make that move, it might help to ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Does the reality of your present role align with your original expectations for the job?

  2. Are you being challenged as much as you’d like? Does the role stretch your skills and abilities and allow you to grow?

  3. Is your organization adapting to the constant change or the pace of change within your industry, or does it feel like pulling teeth?

  4. Do you feel that you’re adding value and making a significant impact on the organization? If so, are you being properly recognized in a way that’s meaningful to you? i.e. financial incentives, more responsibility, growth opportunities, etc.

  5. Do you see yourself progressing or advancing in your current role or at your current company? Is there a clear career path for you or are you destined to stagnate there?

  6. Are you happy and engaged in your current role?

  7. Does your current job bring out the best in you?

Let that last one sink in.

If you answered no to any of these questions, it might make sense to start thinking about your career goals and the strategy you’ll need to achieve them.

If you’d like some advice about how to move beyond your current situation, I’d love to have a conversation with you. My team and I are here to help.
