Your Job Market Minute: What Employers are Listening to Today

Jul 30, 2012 3:41:58 AM

To get an employer's attention and keep it, you need to understand that hiring managers listen to the station WIIFM - What's IIt For Me. Keep in mind throughout all communication with a decision maker that an employer is hiring you for how you can affect their bottom line and how you can pay for yourself - and the quicker the better.

So here's something you can do to get you noticed. At the top of your resume, change your objective statement or boring list of qualifications to a compelling, advertisement-like summary statement that sells them on what you can do for them.

Spell it out for them so they don't have to connect the dots between what you've done in the past, and what you can do for them!

For example, you can describe how your experience with both small companies and billion-dollar market leaders allows you to apply industry best practices while still working within a shoestring budget.

Listen for these Monday Job Market Minutes each Monday morning on Talk Radio KCMO 710AM and 103.7FM at 7:49am and Monday afternoons during the Sean Hannity show.

I wish you the very best week EVER in your search!
