Your JMM: Positioning vs. Prospecting

Feb 4, 2013 9:48:50 AM

Special Reminder:  If January, the biggest hiring month of the year, has passed you by and you're still looking for a job, it will be worth your time to attend my FREE Resume Reboot Workshop happening this Thursday, February 7th, from 1-3 pm. This is an in-person workshop and seating is extremely limited. For more information and to register, visit: http://resumerebootworkshop.eventbrite.com/

Here is today's tip:

One of the most effective ways to convince an employer to hire you is to communicate that you are an investment that will show a huge return.

There is a big difference between positioning yourself as an answer to an employer's needs and just approaching an open position like any other prospect.

This positioning needs to be incorporated into an overall communication strategy, with your resume, your online profile and your interview answers.

The magical question to ask a decision maker during an interview is, "What is the biggest challenge the person in this position will face in the first 6-12 months?"

This question gets to the heart of their need - and probably won't be listed on any job description - and you sell yourself to that need for the remainder of the interview by giving examples of how you have easily overcome this challenge for other employers.

For more strategies, pick up my free 42-page manual on six-figure job seeking. You can get this manual by visiting: http://careerresumeconsulting.com/the-10-things-you-must-do-in-order-to-get-your-next-six-figure-job-fast/

I wish you the very best week in your career search!
