Your Job Market Minute: Where to Start

Jul 16, 2012 2:19:54 AM

I realize sometimes you just put off starting your executive job search because you don't even know where to begin.

So this week, let me give you the basics of a great START to your six figure search:

It starts with developing your written communication, including a Rock Star resume. Dig deep in your career history to pull out all of your greatest accomplishments, and quantify those on a written, thirty second commercial.

Next, create a robust online profile, because that's what employers and recruiters look at when they get your resume. This includes a great linked in profile and hopefully an online version of your resume as well.

Then get your professional references in order; choose three to four and coach them on your greatest strengths.

After that, send a short individual email to everyone you know, letting them know you're in the job market (or renewing your search) and what you're looking for. Ask the magical question,"Who do you know that I should be talking with?"

Then your campaign can begin by proactively sending your resume to the companies you'd want to work for, chosen by size, industry and geographic location.

I know this is a lot to do, but a great place to start is to pick up my free manual, "The 10 Things You MUST Do in order to Get Your Next Six-Figure Job Fast." Get it by clicking here.

I'd like to give a quick congrats to two clients of mine who have accepted new positions this week. Gary is starting his new position as Chief Customer Officer today with a well-known company here in KC. Way to go, Gary!! And Randy has landed a position at a CFO with an amazing growth company. - Randy, you deserve it and the hard work paid off!

Listen for these Monday Job Market Minutes each Monday morning on Talk Radio KCMO 710AM and 103.7FM at 7:49am and Monday afternoons during the Sean Hannity show.

I wish you the very best week EVER in your search!
